The Winton Gallery of Mathematics at the London Science Museum is a testament to the marriage of art and science. Designed by the renowned Zaha Hadid Architects, the gallery's centerpiece, the intricate geometric bench design, demanded precision and innovation. Odico, in collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects, Paragon, and Hicon A/S, rose to the challenge.
Odico's contribution to the gallery was the creation of 14 extraordinary benches, crafted from Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC). These benches, characterized by a mere 3-centimeter-thick concrete shell with lightweight foam at their core, defied conventional expectations. The result was a combination of artistic elegance and structural ingenuity, seamlessly merging mathematics and design. These benches not only serve as functional seating but also as a testament to the limitless possibilities of material innovation.
Odico's collaboration with the London Science Museum exemplifies the company's commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and engineering. Through this project, mathematics emerged as a living, breathing part of our daily world, beautifully showcased through the graceful lines and impeccable craftsmanship of these concrete benches.
